The UNO Bulletin
The Bulletin is intended to provide students and prospective students with general
information concerning registration, tuition and fees, housing, meal plans, parking
regulations, student IDs, email accounts, and other information. Every effort has
been made to ensure the accuracy of the information presented in this document.
The Bulletin is not a contract or an offer to contract. The University reserves the
right to make adjustments and changes as necessary without prior notice.
The Bulletin contains the complete Schedule of Classes offered by the University of
New Orleans for a particular semester. This Schedule serves both undergraduate and
graduate students. It contains all credit courses offered by the University. Courses
are arranged by department and sequentially by course and section number. Evening,
Off-Campus, Saturday, Tele-courses, and Internet courses are repeated in separate
listings for your convenience.
The following information is presented in an alphabetical format for ease of use.

The Academic Calendar is found on the Office of the University Registrar's website
at http://www.uno.edu/registrar/. The Academic Calendar is the official calendar of
the University of New Orleans. The calendar tracks dates such as the start of the
term, mid-semester, end of the term, registration, late registration, last dates to
drop and receive refunds, last date to drop, etc. Students should consult this calendar
for all official dates.
Account Statement/Billing Statement
Credit Card Payments
Credit card payments are only accepted through WebStar. Visa, MasterCard and debit
cards are accepted.
Billing Statements are first emailed and later mailed via parcel post to student's
local mailing address. Billing statements are also accessible at any time on the student's
WebSTAR account via link the link "FEEBILL". It is each student's responsibility to
ensure all payments are received by the University on or before the posted due date.
See the Academic Calendar in the Office of the University Registrar to determine when fees are due. Students
may confirm payment has been received by checking WebSTAR or contacting the Bursar's
If a student does not receive an email or parcel post Account Statement/Billing Statement
prior to any fee payment deadline, please follow the steps below:
- Check WebSTAR for account balance, and,
- forward any amounts owed to the University.
If financial aid and/or third party credits will not cover the entire amount owed
to the University, students must pay the remaining balance.
If a student is unable to pay the remaining balance and is eligible to participate
in the Extended Payment Plan Option (EPPO), please complete a University Promissory
Note. There is a $50.00 fee for this option. For more information about EPPO, please
logon to WebSTAR . Next click on "Plan Summaries" to the left of the window.
Students may pay the total fees in full, or if eligible, use the Extended Payment
Plan Option (EPPO). (See the EPPO section of The Bulletin.)
Failure to receive an Account Statement/Billing Statement does not warrant exemption
from penalties for non-payment or any other restrictions. Students are responsible
for satisfying all payment requirements. Failure to make payments by deadlines may
result in administrative action. (See the "Delinquent Accounts" section at http://bursar.uno.edu/
A Non-Refundable Fee of $50.00 is required and students must submit a University Promissory
Note with the Bursar's Office for each semester this option is selected. An online
signup option is available for those who pay online via credit card or e-check.
Students may use EPPO to pay tuition and fees if they are in good financial standing
with the University. The EPPO Summer term plan allows for two equal installments.
First installment is due by the early registration deadline on June 2, 2017 4:30 p.m.
If a student does not make the initial payment on June 2nd, their enrollment will
be cancelled for the term. A late registration period (additional $150 fee) will allow
students to re-enroll and pay between June 3-7. A missed initial 50% payment during
late registration period will result with a $75 delinquency fee charge (Enrollment
will not be cancelled). The second payment is due on July 6, 4:30 p.m. Failure to
meet the installment terms of the EPPO agreement will automatically revoke the privilege
of using EPPO for all future terms. Missed 2nd payment will also result in a $75 delinquency
For Fall 2017, UNO offers a payment plan which allows for four payments of 25% of
the term balance after any financial aid has been applied. If a student is in good
financial standing with UNO, they will be able to use the Extended Payment Plan Option
(EPPO). The EPPO allows students to pay a minimum of 25 percent of the balance due
by the designated payment deadline to complete registration (August 11, 2017 4:30
p.m.). The remaining installments are due by 4:30pm on September 15; October 17; and
November 15 for the Fall term.
If a student does not make the initial payment on August 11th, their enrollment will
be cancelled for the term. A late registration period (additional $150 fee) will allow
students to re-enroll between August 12-22. A missed initial 25% payment during late
registration period will result with a $75 delinquency fee charge (Enrollment will
not be cancelled). Should any of the subsequent EPPO payment deadlines be missed without
satisfying their minimum financial obligation by the published due date, the student
will be assessed a delinquency penalty of $75 per occurrence.
A similar plan is offered in the spring.

Advising before Registration
Freshmen at UNO are centrally advised through the Privateer Enrollment Center. Additionally,
freshmen are strongly encouraged to work with their College Advisor to determine the
best academic path regarding their individual circumstances. Students having earned
greater than 30 hours are advised by their particular College, School, or Department.
Depending upon the College/Department of the student, advising may or may not be mandatory.
Students can view their assigned Advisor (accessed in the Advising Center) through
Books - General
The University of New Orleans is required to comply with the rulings of Louisiana
Senate Resolution 179, the Federal Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA Textbook
Provision), UL System PPM F-B IV.XIII.-1a, and UNO Administrative Policy AP 14.2 Textbook
Adoption & Procurement.
Textbook information for courses at UNO should be posted online 45 days prior to the
start of a new semester (to the maximum extent practicable). This information should
include Course, Section, Author, Title, ISBN, Required or Recommended and Retail Price.
Students are strongly encouraged to review the course description via WebStar of each
class for which they have enrolled in any given term. At the bottom of each course
description is section called 'Course Materials'. These are the materials that have
been identified by the instructor of the enrolled course as required.
Books - University Bookstore
The University Bookstore is located in the University Center. Regular business hours
are from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cost of Attendance and "Over-award" of Federal Financial Aid
Each financial aid recipient is assigned a Cost of Attendance (COA) prior to the packaging
of awards. The basic components to the COA are: Tuition/Fees, Room/Board, Books, Travel
and Personal/Miscellaneous fees. According to Federal and UL System regulations, The
Office of Student Financial Aid cannot exceed a student's Cost of Attendance when
packaging awards. Initially students are awarded their maximum eligibility in Pell,
SEOG, College Work-Study, Perkins and Direct Subsidized Loans for the academic year
or given semester. Any scholarship, tuition waiver, fee exemption, stipend, or other
type of award that is processed after the initial financial aid award is packaged
may create an "Over-award". If an over-award occurs, the student's financial aid award(s)
will be reduced (Scholarships, SEOG, Perkins, Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized
Loans, and/or Plus Loans, etc.). In the event all funds have been disbursed, the student
will be required to repay the "Over-award" portion upon notification of the "Over-award"
Students may be able to avoid an "Over-award" status by carefully reviewing their
UNO Financial Aid Award Notification immediately upon receipt. If the student will
be receiving any type of scholarship, tuition waiver, fee exemption, or stipend that
is not reflected on the Award Notification, they should contact a Financial Aid Counselor
immediately in order to have the award reviewed and possibly revised. Also, if the
student has been awarded a scholarship, tuition waiver, fee exemption, or stipend
for the Fall semester only and anticipates receiving the award for the Spring, they
should contact a Financial Aid Counselor immediately in order to have the award reviewed
and possibly revised.
- Financial Aid Awards are based on full-time enrollment.
- Financial Aid awards will be adjusted (i.e. reduced) after the fee payment deadline
based on regulatory policies for students enrolled less than full-time.
- Student loan recipients must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible (excluding
audit hours). Enrollment hours below half-time will be cancelled.
- All enrolled courses must count toward a student's degree.
- Graduate students must enroll in graduate level courses.
- Graduate students pursuing a master's degree may receive aid for only 6 hours of research.
- TOPS, Scholarship, Fee Exemption, Waiver, Special Award recipients must refer to their
requirements (i.e., rules & regulations) for eligibility/enrollment criteria.
Cross Enrolled Students
Through separate formal agreements between UNO and Southern University in New Orleans
and Delgado and Elaine P. Nunez Community Colleges, UNO students may register for
a limited number of classes at each of these institutions when they register at UNO.
Students should contact the Office of their College Dean or the University Registrar
for information regarding the procedures to be followed in this process.
Beginning Fall 2014, the University of New Orleans offers a comprehensive Degree Audit
through WebStar (accessed through the student's Advising Center). The Degree Audit
is an 'electronic map' of all the Programs of Study offered at the University of New
Orleans. The Degree Audit enables a student to not only view the courses required
to earn their particular degree, it also applies those courses earned toward the degree
- ultimately allowing the student view their academic progress in 'real time'. Additionally,
a student can perform a 'What-if' analysis using the Degree Audit to determine how
those credits they previously earned might be utilized in a different Program of Study,
should they choose to change their Major. Students are encouraged to use this self-advising
tool as it will always be used as the university's official certification toward fulfillment
of graduation requirements.
The most efficient method for the University to communicate with students is through
e-mail. Reminder messages, course cancellations, college/faculty messages, financial
aid updates, non-attendance and other important messages are all examples of the types
of communication sent by e-mail. The University maintains an e-mail account for each
student. Students should be reminded that the official communication method of the
University is through email. Students should check this messaging system to ensure
they are receiving all information that pertains to them. Students having difficulty
accessing their University e-mail should contact the University Computer Center Help
Desk (101T Computer Center) or call 280-4357.
Students may access and print a verification of their enrollment for any given term
(only after the 14th Class Day). While the University of New Orleans participates
in the National Student Clearinghouse as the centralized location/vehicle for the
verification of student enrollment, there are cases when a student might need an independent
verification (for example, for insurance purposes, etc.) and this is made available
The Office of the University Registrar strongly encourages students to instead send
a copy of the Academic Transcript in cases where official, historical verifications

(Available for Fall and Spring Semesters Only)

charge is required by the designated payment deadline to complete registration. The
remaining balance will be due on October 1 for the Fall term and March 1 for the Spring
term. The EPPO is not available for the Summer term. Failure to meet the installment
terms of the EPPO agreement will automatically revoke the privilege of using EPPO
for all future terms.
Eligibility alone does not place a student on a payment plan. Students must elect
this option. This election is finalized by completing a signed promissory note with
the Accounts Receivable Department.
Failure to make this election after satisfying less than 100% of the financial obligation
will result in an outstanding balance owed the University. The promissory note is
located on the web (http://bursar.uno.edu/), on the reverse side of a printed Billing
Statement, and in the Accounts Receivable Department.
Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans, PLUS Loans & Private Loans
The Federal Government disburses Federal Direct Loan funds electronically to the University.
The actual loan funds are posted to the Student Account after the last date of Centralized
Enrollment Services. Prior to receiving the actual loan funds, if the student accepts
their award(s), their Direct Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) will show as "Anticipated
Aid" on their student Account Statement and Customer Account. Students may view their
account online through WebSTAR.
PLUS and Private Loans are NOT posted to the account as "Anticipated Aid." The Bursar's
Office will review a roster of eligible PLUS and Private Loan recipients to determine
if the student's class schedule could be retained based on the PLUS and Private Loan
funds. Please contact the Bursar's Office for instructions.
If a student receives Private Loan funds and the lender does not participate in the
Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), then the student must endorse their loan check (s)
at the Bursar's Station during the appropriate loan disbursement periods in order
for the loan to be negotiated and credited to the student's account. If a student
is using their loan check (s) to pay the total amount owed, they must endorse their
check(s) prior to the fee payment deadline.
Once a student's loan funds are posted to their account and enrollment/enrolled hours
have been confirmed, the Bursar's Office will release any excess funds to the student's
bank or mail the excess funds to the student if they have not authorized an electronic
credit of funds to their bank.
Please be aware: Private Loan Checks received from a lender must be endorsed by the
student no later than 30 days after the checks are delivered to the University from
the bank. All checks not endorsed within this timeframe must be returned to the bank
Federal Pell Grants and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Enrolled students receiving a Financial Aid Award Notification confirming their Pell
Grant and/or Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) should find these funds
within their Account Statement. If the WebStar Account Statement does not reflect
this credit by the appropriate fee payment deadline, the student must submit the
total amount owed in order to complete their registration. It is strongly recommended
students consult their Financial Aid Counselor before the deadline to pay fees for

Federal Perkins Loans
If a student has been awarded a Perkins Loan, they must sign a Perkins Promissory
Note. The Office of Accounting Services (Administration Building, Room 1006) will
forward to each student additional information regarding this process. Perkins Loans
cannot be credited to a student's Account Statement until they have signed their Perkins
If a student has not received information regarding signing their Perkins Promissory
Note or if their WebStar Account Statement does not reflect this credit by the appropriate
fee payment deadline, the student must submit the total amount owed in order to
complete their registration. It is strongly recommended students consult their Financial
Aid Counselor before the deadline to pay fees for the semester.
Students are strongly urged to monitor their account balance through WebSTAR.
Fee Payment Deadline
Students can pay fees through WebStar, mail (see postmark deadlines in Important Dates
Calendar), in person in the Bursar's Office, or through the phone bank (see page below
for details.) In any case, students must pay fees no later than the deadline noted
for the specific semester or they will incur an outstanding balance owed the University.
All enrollment periods have one payment deadline except the Summer terms which have
varying deadlines based on the actual date of registration.
FERPA - The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights
with respect to education records. These rights include but are not limited to:
||The right to inspect and review education records within 45 days of the day the University
receives a request for access.
||Students should submit to the Registrar written requests that identify the record(s)
to be inspected. The University official will make arrangements for access and notify
the student of the time and place where the records may be inspected. If the records
are not maintained by the University official to whom the request was submitted, he
or she will advise the student of the correct official to whom the request should
||The right to request the amendment of education records that are believed are inaccurate
||Students may ask the University to amend a record that is believed inaccurate or misleading.
Students should write the Registrar, clearly identify the part of the record to be
changed, and specify why it is inaccurate or misleading.
||If the University decides not to amend the record as requested, the University will
notify the student of the decision and advise them of their right to a hearing regarding
the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedure
will be provided when notification of the right to a hearing.
||The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained
in education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes without consent.
||One exception which permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to school officials
with legitimate educational interests. A school official is a person employed by
the University/University of Louisiana System/Louisiana Board of Regents in an administrative,
supervisory, academic or research, or support staff position (including law enforcement
unit personnel and health staff); a person or company with whom the University has
contracted (such as an attorney, auditor, or collection agent); a person serving on
the Board of Supervisors; or a student serving on an official committee, such as a
disciplinary or grievance committee, or assisting another school official in performing
his or her tasks.
||A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review
an education record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility.
|| Upon request, the University discloses education records without consent to officials
of another school in which you may seek or intend to enroll.
|| The right to file a complaint with the US Department of Education concerning alleged
failures by this University to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The name and

Financial Aid Credits to Accounts
Prior to financial aid being credited to an Account Statement, the following requirements
must be met:
- The student must formally accept the award by accessing WebStar to review and Accept/Decline
Note: The UNO Financial Aid Award is located on the main page of WebStar under Finances>>
- The student must be enrolled in an eligible degree- or certificate-seeking curriculum.
- The student must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for student loans.
This is defined as:
- A minimum of six (6) credit hours (Undergraduates) and five (5) credit hours (Graduates)
during a Fall and/or Spring semesters.
- During a Summer semester, three (3) credit hours is considered half-time.
- Audit hours do not count toward financial aid eligibility.
- Loan funds cannot be disbursed to a Student Account if they are enrolled below half-time.
In most cases, the financial aid award package is based on full-time enrollment (12
credit hours or more in the fall/spring; 6 credit hours or more in the summer). Therefore,
enrollment less than full-time may result in an adjustment of the financial aid award.
- The student must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- The student must complete a Federal Direct Master Promissory Note and Loan Counseling
if they are a first time borrower.
Grade Report Form
Most often used by third party providers, UNO offers students the ability to request
their term grades in a paper format be submitted to their benefactor. This is accomplished
via a request from the following website: https://secure.uno.edu/registrar/gradereport_form.cfm
The Office of the University Registrar strongly encourages students to send to their
third party provider a copy of the Academic Transcript instead of the Grade Report
Form. Please contact the Office of the University Registrar for further details.
Graduate assistantships provide a salary and, waiver of non-resident fees. Graduate
assistants who resign or who are terminated from the University will be accountable
for all tuition and fees for that semester.
Pontchartrain Halls consists of two separate and complete residence facilities located
on the main campus adjacent to each other at Milneburg Street and Leon C. Simon Boulevard.
Each resident may choose a one bedroom/one bath, two bedroom/one bath or four bedroom/two
bath suite with a general living area. All suites have nine-foot ceilings and are
These state-of-the-art facilities includes all-inclusive laundries, community kitchens,
a convenience store located in the North Hall, game rooms, study lounges, social activity
spaces, cable television, internet service, WiFi, computer labs, digital security
cameras and card access.
Wireless services will be available in the near future. There are 250 parking spaces
on site along with exterior porches and landscaped courtyard.
An application fee and security deposit is to be submitted with your application. The
security deposit will be refunded less any damage charges and/or outstanding University charges.
Damages or fees in excess of $250.00 will be billed to be residents account.

Leases may be signed per semester, academic year or calendar year beginning with the
Meal Plan for students residing in Pontchartrain Halls
A meal plan is required for the residents of Pontchartrain Halls. Residents may select from
several plans. If no preference is stated on your application the minimum plan of
12 meals per week will be selected.
Lafitte Village provides housing to graduate students, married students, single-parent
students, and couples in domestic partnerships at an affordable cost. This housing
opportunity gives non-traditional students the ability to still pursue their education
while also raising a family. Lafitte Village is conveniently located on the edge
of UNO's campus, providing a more calm and quiet atmosphere.
Recently renovated, it offers one and two bedroom units with one bath, which all include
stainless steel refrigerators and stoves. The brand new playground and courtyard
is a perfect place for children to play and also provides a place to study outside
on a beautiful day. Located only fifteen minutes away from the city, residents are able
to easily enjoy the charms of New Orleans.
An application fee and security deposit is to be submitted with your application.
The security deposit will be funded less any damage charges and/or outstanding University
fees. Damages or fees in excess of $225.00 will be billed to the resident's account.

Leases can be signed per semester, academic year or calendar year beginning with the
fall semester. Rent is paid monthly by direct debit.

Privateer Place is an apartment-style community on the northwest corner of campus.
Priority leasing is given to full-time applicants (August - July). All applicants
must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number or Passport and have a guarantor.

the applicant signs a lease.

The student ID card, among other things, can be used to check out books from the Library,
attend athletic events at no cost, and obtain discounts at movie theaters and other
businesses around the city.
Students may obtain their ID card at University Computing Center throughout the semester.

Louisiana State Teacher Tuition Exemption
To participate in the Teacher Tuition Exemption program, the Bursar's Office must
have an agreement on file with the parish school board where the teacher is employed.
Additionally, each teacher will be required to complete a Receivable Form and submit
it to the Third Party Billing Coordinator. For further information, contact the Third
Party Billing Coordinator at (504) 280-6505.
National Guard Tuition Exemption
Full-time and part-time students who are members of the Louisiana National Guard are
required to come in person in order to have their eligibility verified by a Financial
Aid Representative. However, it is recommended students first check with their STEP
Coordinator to confirm their names are on the National Guard eligibility roster. This
can be done in the Office of Student Financial Aid prior to the Fee Payment/Registration
period once final grades are posted for the current semester or at the Financial Aid
Registration Station during the appropriate Fee Payment/Registration period, before
your deadline to pay fees. The National Guard tuition exemption will not be credited
to the student's Account Statement if this procedure is not followed.
The National Guard tuition exemption eligibility must be confirmed each semester.
Recipients must maintain a cumulative 2.0 or higher grade point average (GPA) in order
to retain eligibility on all coursework accepted by the University.
Office and Evening Hours
Campus offices are generally open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Privateer
Enrollment Center is also open Tuesday evenings until 6 p.m. during the week preceding
the first week of classes for the Fall and Spring semesters, the first two weeks in
the Fall and Spring semesters, and the first week of the regular Summer term. Advising
may not be available from noon to 1:00 p.m. during Late Registration.
All UNO students (including full-time, part-time, and Saturday only students) must
have a UNO parking decal to park on either the Main Campus or the East Campus. The
only exceptions are the pay parking lots and parking meters.
Parking - How to Obtain a Parking Decal
- Arrange for payment. During any phase of Registration, students may include this cost
in their Account Statement by indicating this preference and paying fees.
- Log onto the UNO website, click on Student Self-service, click on Learner Services,
click on Finances, click on Accounts, then click on Order Parking Decal.
- Complete the on-line application for a parking decal. Once the application has been
completed on-line and payment has been, made bring the following information to The
University Police Parking and Traffic Division:
- Receipt of payment
- Current driver's license
- Current motor vehicle registration
Note: Account Statements must reflect decal has been paid for before decal will be
- Decal registration is not complete until the decal is permanently affixed in the proper
location on the vehicle.
Note: UNO reserves the right to change fees without prior notice.
Parking - Residential
Non-student residents are not required to obtain a UNO student parking decal; however,
students, in addition to their student parking decal, are required to also have a
residential decal in order to park in the residential parking areas. Non-student residents
must follow the same procedure for obtaining a regular student decal. Residential
decals will be issued at no charge, upon request. Non-student residents will be allowed
to park in designated residential parking areas only. If non-student residents wish
to park in any other area on campus, they will need to obtain a UNO student parking
decal. Residential decals for the Pontchartrain Hall parking area must be obtained
Payments to Students with Credit Balances
Credit balances result from payments, financial aid received, and other credit entries
exceeding the total of charges to a student's account. Refunds are issued to students
for the amount of the excess account balance through direct deposit transfer to the
student's checking or savings account. Account and routing numbers must be provided
with a voided check only once in a student's career unless the students wishes to
cancel or change this agreement. Forms are available at http://bursar.uno.edu/.
At the start of any given semester, initial refunds for credit balances are processed
and mailed within 14 days after funds have been credited to the student account. For
financial aid recipients, a Bookstore Voucher will be made for textbook costs through
the last day of final registration provided the student has accepted the financial

Placement Tests - English
All new students or new transfer students without credit in college-level English
will be placed into the first semester, freshman English course (ENG 1157). Students
wishing to enroll into an advanced English course must be evaluated via an English
Placement Test administered through the Department of English. This practice is most
often referred to as 'Credit by Examination'. Please contact the English Department

Placement Tests - Foreign Languages
All new students, new transfer students, or continuing students who wish to enroll
into an advanced foreign languages course without pre-requisite credit must be evaluated
via a Foreign Language Placement Test administered through the Department of Romance
Languages. This practice is most often referred to as 'Credit by Examination'. Please

schedule an exam.
Placement Tests - Mathematics
All new students or transfer students without credit in mathematics will be placed
into the appropriate UNO mathematics course according to their ACT, SAT or Compass
Math scores, as shown below.

Registration - Internet Courses
The University of New Orleans offers many of its courses over the Internet via Moodle,
UNO's online course delivery system. Internet courses are best suited for students
who do not live in the proximity of campus. Internet courses offer the same content
as their traditional counterparts; however, they all have technical requirements and
usually require more writing as most communication is accomplished in the written
Students who have never taken an internet course are strongly advised to visit the
Student Moodle Orientation site. This site will familiarize students with the layout
of an online course and communicate what will be expected of them.
Students who register late will have access to on-line course materials 24 hours after
registering. Students who do not meet class assignment deadlines risk failing the
course. Instructors report students who do not participate in an online course as
"not attending." Non-attendance and/or failing a course may place a student in a position
of repayment of partial or all awarded financial aid.
Registration - Late Registration/Schedule Adjustment
Late Registration is the student's last opportunity to register or adjust their class
schedule by adding and/or dropping classes for a semester or session. Late fees apply!
If the student did not register in their designated registration period during Registration,
they should register during this time. Students should note the deadlines for payment
in the Academic Calendar as found on the University Registrar's Homepage.
Late Fee charges apply to all students enrolling after the dates indicated in the
Academic Calendar for the respective enrollment period.

The University reserves the right to cancel any courses in which there is not sufficient

no alternate course preference for a cancelled class, the University will fully refund

WebStar has been designed to automatically restrict enrollment of students based on
classification. Students are limited as follows:

When attempting to register for certain courses, WebSTAR may notify a student there
are restrictions on enrollment, which means there are certain conditions that must
be met in order to enroll in the course. (For example, Requires Approval of Department or Not Open to Freshman, etc.) If a student does not meet the conditions of the restrictions place on a particular
course by the Department, but believe they have a special case for consideration,
please contact the academic department offering the course for instructions. If the
appropriate department representative approves a waiver, the student may be allowed
to register/enroll in a restricted course with a 'permission/override' giving the
student 24 hours to complete their registration.
||The University of New Orleans allows student access to admissions, financial aid,
records, registration, and student financials (fees) via the UNO Student Information
Portal through the World Wide Web known as WebStar. Access is accomplished by clicking
the WebSTAR link on the UNO home page at http://www.uno.edu.
||Students are issued a User ID is and UNO LAN ID (i.e., email@example.com) which is used
to access WebSTAR. If a student is unsure of their LAN ID and is not a first time
attendee at UNO, they should contact the University Computer Center (UCC) Help Desk
at 504-280-4357. First time students to UNO will be provided this information by the
Office of Admissions at the time their application is processed. First time students
can also get their account information by visiting http://www.uno.edu and clicking
on the first time user link and supplying the requested information to get their UNO
LAN ID and initial password.
||A student's first password is computer-generated and must be changed prior to accessing
WebSTAR/LAN/Moodle/Email. Once the password is changed, it is changed for all student
systems at UNO.
||Formerly known as Schedule Confirmation/Fee Bill. It contains information such as
fees and tuition accrued by the student.
|Centralized Fee Payment
||Located in the Privateer Enrollment Center prior to and including the first week of
classes, selected offices including but not limited to the Bursar, Student Financial
Aid, I.D. Cards, Parking, Help Desk, etc., are available to provide a one-stop location
to obtain student services.
||A term typically used for First Time Students whom have been admitted but not yet
enrolled. Matriculation is the process of moving a student from 'Admitted' to 'Enrolled'.
This occurs at the initial registration of a First Time Student – typically during
Orientation. Enrolled students are oftentimes referred to a 'Matriculated Students'.
||In order to enroll into a restricted course, the academic department in which the
course is offered will electronically assign permission to get into a restricted class.
This permission has a time limit (normally one day). For students gaining access to
register through a departmental/college 'permission', it is their responsibility to
enroll for the course once permission is entered into the system.
||The administrative student schedule cancellation for non-payment of tuition or other
university fees. It is the
responsibility of each student to ensure they meet their financial obligations to

Resigning from the University
Students may resign from the University (drop all courses) via WebSTAR. Please note
the effective resignation date is the date on which the last class was dropped. Students
are strongly encouraged to consult their academic advisor and the Office of Financial
Aid before resigning from the University.

Withholding Directory Information
The University of New Orleans does not normally disclose Directory Information. However,
at its discretion, it may provide directory information in accordance with the provision
of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, to include:
your name, address, e-mail address, telephone listing, photograph, date and place
of birth, dates of enrollment, college in which enrolled, classification, major degree(s)
earned, awards, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight
and height of members of athletic teams, and the most recent previous educational
agency or institution attended.
To request non-disclosure of Directory Information, you should complete a form in
the Registrar's Office (AD 112). It will remain in effect until canceled in writing
by you. Please allow five days for processing.
WebStar – What is it?
WebStar is the Student Information System portal accessed primarily by students and
faculty. Through WebStar, students are able to register, check enrollment appointment
times, view holds, check for special messages, print class schedules, view grades,
pay fees, accept aid, perform degree audits, and check financial aid. The University
is constantly fine-tuning the system, so check periodically for the latest available
- Access WebStar.
- Go to the 'Student' link. To access personal services, students need:
- WebStar User ID (which is your UNO LAN ID + @uno.edu).
- WebStar password (which is your UNO LAN password).
WebStar is normally available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except during University
holiday periods and scheduled maintenance periods which run from 6:00 P.M. Saturday
to noon Sunday.
